Regardless of age, our thoughts can and will affect our emotions and behaviors.  Many times it seems we are drowning in our own minds leading to feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and a lack of self control. This may result in emotions such as anxiety, anger, depression, shame, doubt, and guilt. These emotions can affect our behaviors which tend to only reinforce these feelings.  CBT focuses on increasing self-awareness and changing the way we think and behave leading to self-empowerment. I utilize this therapy with children, teenagers, and adults.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This therapy combines mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation to help people not only work through their emotions but understand and accept them as well. DBT operates from a viewpoint that we are not always going to feel happy or good and that is not a bad thing but a normal thing. DBT seeks to validate our feelings, ensure that we have a right to feel the way that we do, and develop coping and distress tolerance skills to achieve more positive outcomes.  I utilize this therapy for children, teenagers, and adults.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

This is a very effective and research proven therapy aimed at desensitizing traumatic memories and distressing life experiences. It aims to decrease our sensitivity to an inherent negative belief system we unfairly burden ourselves with and install a more adaptive belief system. This process helps the individual to heal from trauma and other distressing memories. I utilize this therapy with teenagers and adults.

Overtime the stressors of everyday life can lead to disconnection amongst couples and partners. The Gottman Method is a research-proven therapy and is very effective in working with couples.  This method addresses issues of intimacy, friendship, connection, conflict, communication, shared meaning, and goals. The vast majority of couples that I have worked with over the years have found this approach to be highly effective. This method can be utilized for couples who want to remain happily together and for couples who are solely interested in co-parenting.

This research based therapy is built on the idea that each person has several parts to their personality. These parts are designed to protect you against the hurt and pain from previous experiences, memories, and/or traumas.  I will work with you to understand how conflicts between different parts of your personality impact your well being and support you in creating a better balance among these parts of yourself. The goal of this therapy is to achieve transformation and healing.  I utilize this therapy with adults.

Internal Family Systems

This simple approach tends to be very effective and makes the correct assumption that everyone has strengths.  Sometimes those strengths can be very difficult to self-identify based upon our childhood, relationships, relationship with yourself, and past experiences; however, they are all apparent and within all of us.  I help you navigate this and peel back the layers that get in the way of identifying and feeling these strengths. When you’re able to access these strengths, it leads to a more empowered you. I utilize this approach with all ages and can be integrated with all modalities.
